A Christmas to Remember

This Christmas brought many memories for the Akins family!

-It was our first Christmas NOT in NC. We actually spent it in our own house with David's parents and Gma. While we sure missed not seeing my family, we did talk with them on the webcam and my folks will be arriving on the 2nd of January to spend a week with us!

- It was our first Christmas with what will most likely be all of our children....I am pretty sure we are done! 2 boys is enough for me!

- David parents almost didn't make it due to a big snow storm coming through CO and KS.

- I had a White Christmas finally! We had about 3 inches with wind gusts close to 40 mph. And yes I stayed indoors!

- Jackson got a stomach virus Christmas Eve Eve! He was a sick little boy. So lots of washing pj's sheets, spraying disinfectant and hoping no one else would catch it.

- WRONG! Christmas night, Santa brought David and I the stomach bug! We must have been bad this year! I thought I was going to die and David was close behind. Thank goodness for grandparents that took care of our kids. I barely made it out of the bed for 24 hrs. (Matthew hasn't gotten it - praise God)

- And the topper of all toppers! David and his dad were in the attic in our garage checking out something and Bill wasn't on a piece of ply wood like he thought and came crashing through the ceiling hitting our concrete garage floor from about 15 ft up. He ended up with a horrible shattered ankle which will require surgery in a couple weeks, a cut up elbow and a few minor bumps and bruises. We are just so thankful he is alive and with us - this could have been a fatal accident. So I called 911 for the first time and probably had our neighbors curious on what was going on with the new family on the block! Bill is doing well, obviously in lots of pain, but they are planning to make their way back to CO tomorrow where he can rest in his own home and follow up with an Orthopedic Surgeon there. Please keep him in your prayers!

So what a way to ring in 2010!
I hope you all made memories this Christmas with your loved ones....maybe not ones like we did, but memories to remember!

Happy New Year! I hope it brings joy and laughter your way!

Thomas and Friends

Memaw and Papa got Jackson a Thomas the Train Tent....he is having SO MUCH fun with it!

Daddy playing as the Caboose!

He took a nap in it today....yes we are still waiting on Jackson's bed rail to get here since the movers decided to give it to someone else! So he is still sleeping on his mattress on the floor!

Snug as a bug in a rug

And this is just a sweet picture on my little one!

Christmas Day 2009

Can you believe I actually turned my camera on this morning and the battery was DEAD! Grrr! So I took a ton of pictures with Sharon's camera and will be uploading more later! Here are a few to get you started!

Santa came (notice David got the tv and part of the surround sound up in the basement!)

Then Jackson came and there was a mess!

With his new Train Table - yes he sits on it to play!

Working on his new workbench from Nana and Papa

And here is my little elf- he really couldn't see what all the excitement was about!

I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas!

This is the first White Christmas I have had in a LONG time! And in NC if we get snow it is usually snow/ICE! Yuck!

It was so pretty, but very cold! I think Christmas Eve we had wind up to 40 miles/hour and on Christmas morning the wind chill was below zero! We ended up getting about 3 inches but had drifts in our yard up to almost a foot!

Enjoy the pictures of our Winter Wonderland!

Heaven is the Face

I don't know how many of you listen to Contemporary Christian Music, but my radio stays tuned to KLove. If you don't - and you don't know who Steven Curtis Chapman is....well you should check out his music!

This song (Click Here) is from his new album that I really want. It is called Heaven is the Face and it is a song about his daughter. His son accidentally ran over her in the driveway a couple years ago with the car- I believe she was only 5 years old. He didn't see her as she was playing. Such a sad story , but in all the sorrow - they still praise HIM!

So take a listen and let it bring you peace this Christmas Season - as there is someone we all wish was here to enjoy just one more day with!

4 month Well Baby - a little early

Matthew had his 4 month Well Baby Check Up today (a couple weeks early b/c they were booked up in Jan) and he is growing, growing. He is now 13.2 pounds and 26 1/4 inches long (up from 11.4 pounds and 22 1/4 inches long in early Nov). I think I am going to have a tall one on my hands....make that 2 tall ones.

I checked out Jackson's stats at 4 months exactly and he was 13 pounds 6 ounces and 25 1/4 inches long. So it looks like Matthew is ahead in height and may be about equal in pounds come 2 more weeks.

All in all an uneventful trip to the Doc which is what you want at this age! :)

Here are some pictures I took today.....Matthew is finally liking his Bumbo!

Mr Smiley!

Nom Nom Nom...the fists are constantly in his mouth and the drooling has begun!

My other sweet boy!

You don't have to ask him twice

David was down in the basement with Jackson and I heard him say, "Come on up- it's time for a bath." So David comes up, starts the bath and there is NO Jackson. Then a few minutes later....here comes a little boy running up the stairs with nothing but a shirt on. I guess he was ready for his bath after all!

Happy Birthday Jesus

Jackson and I made a birthday cake for Jesus....something I hope to do every year with my boys. He had the most fun too! Too bad he hasn't had a piece of it yet (he decided not to eat any dinner), but David and I had a piece after the kids went to bed and it was yummy!

Opening the box

Pouring the mix in - only a little got on the counter

Using the mixer- he thought this was great!

His FAVORITE part!

Time for icing

Done!

Happy Birthday Jesus....can you tell where Jackson stuck his finger in the icing! :)

Matthew - not impressed with the cake!

Our attempt

of a Christmas card! This is getting tougher and tougher!

Matthew Update!

Matthew is 3 months old now! WOW where has the time gone?? He continues to be a good baby! I don't know how much he weighs or what his length is since we don't have to go back to the Doc til 4 months.

He is still a good little eater! He seems to be doing worse at night the last few days....not sleeping well, but if you can get him to keep the pacy in his mouth I think he would sleep all night. So a lot of running in there and popping it back in his mouth. He is rolling over from back to front - only to the right! And once rolled over he gets mad b/c he can't roll over on his back!

Thanksgiving Post a little late

At least I got it posted before Christmas! I am trying to catch up on blogging, but at night I am usually exhausted after trying to unpack these boxes, be a mom and a wife!

But here are the boys on Thanksgiving! We had a quiet little Thanksgiving in the TLF. I did manage to cook a turkey breast and some sides to go with it! David has already said it will be one that we always remember! Nice and quiet and full tummies!

And I think what I was most Thankful for this year was being together as a family after almost 8 months apart!

Homeowners Again!

We are finally in our house and it feels good! We have more room than we have ever had, but I think we will fill it nicely with our growing family of 4!

Our main floor has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths, kitchen, dining room, living room, and laundry area. And then our basement has a huge rec area, a huge bedroom and another bath.

Here are some pictures of the outside....I will post more pictures later as I start to finish rooms! Right now we are buried in boxes it seems!

It looks like a regular one story from the front

But from the back you can see it is much larger!

Here is our view from the back deck- we back up to some trees and a creek!

Duck Duck Goose

There is a wonderful park about a mile from where we live that has a ton of ducks and geese to feed! You can tell that they are fed often b/c they come right up to you (my FIL actually was petting one the other weekend when he was here).

Jackson is usually scared of his shadow and I thought for sure he would be of these ducks and geese, but no way! He loves feeding them and often chases them! He has been nipped at a couple times b/c he doesn't realize he can't hold onto the bread...but he just laughs!

This is the scariest looking thing I have ever seen! lol

Our time in Temporary Housing

We expected the worst and it was much better! We knew we were going to be in a one bedroom apartment for a few weeks when we arrived to McConnell, but it was surprisingly cozy. Not that we weren't ready to get out when the time came.....

Jackson playing with some of his Thomas tracks that he got for Christmas from Ms Pat and Mr Mack next door! He loves it! Thanks

I am posting this one b/c David thinks we look alike here and I think he always looks like David...I will take it when I can!

Brother kisses!

Christmas in NC

Before David and I left for Kansas - we had an early Thanksgiving and Christmas in NC with my family! We did it all in one night- Thanksgiving meal and Christmas presents! Jackson had a blast and got WAY too much as did Matthew! Thank you all for the gifts for the boys even though I thought David was going to have a heart attack trying to figure out how to get it all to Kansas! :)

Matthew wasn't too impressed with Christmas!

Jackson was so excited over all the presents!

Yes a chainsaw- just what every little boy needs!

His HUGE John Deere Tractor from Uncle Dee and Aunt Robin! Can you tell they don't have kids yet!

His musical Coupe Car from Memaw and Papa!

And this was just a drop in the bucket of presents! Santa really doesn't need to come to our house!
