Week 2 of 1/2 Marathon Training

This was a much better week of training. I had no new injuries, still healing my hamstring- although it is definitely on the mend!

Monday - Cross training
Tuesday - 2 mile fun run
Wednesday - Cross training
Thursday - 5 mile run
Friday - Cross training
Saturday - 6 mile run (my longest run ever and it actually felt GREAT!)
Sunday- Rest

I ran on Saturday morning before Jackson and David got up and it felt wonderful! There were 2 other runners out and a cyclist taking advantage of the cool morning. Then we went to Tupelo for the day and I ate a LOT of CiCi's pizza! YUMMO! I think that defeated the purpose of my run, but then I thought....I worked out so hard that it doesn't really matter how much I eat right?? WRONG!!! :) I actually have been consuming more calories and I STAY hungry with all the training I am doing. The only problem is that I am taking in bad calories and craving cookies and what not! Speaking of food - I am off to the Commissary to grocery shop kid and husband FREE! :) Have a Great Labor Day!

Jackson's new friend, Bella

Our good friends, Todd and Tara, have officially entered into parenthood....the 4 legged kind! They got Bella, a cockapoo, on Thursday night and Jackson and I went to see her on Friday! She is the cutest thing, so tiny and sweet! But she in NO WAY at all made me want another puppy! I told Tara that I would much rather potty train Jackson than house break another pup. Maybe it is b/c Jackson wears a diaper and I despise having to clean carpets!
At first Jackson really didn't have much to do with Bella b/c he was too busy checking out Tara's new house! But it didn't take long for him to want to love on her!

Jackson messing with Tara's blinds and curtains as he stands in Bella's bed.

Jackson and Bella BFF! He loved her bed.

Jackson got out her dog treats and he ate one and Bella ate one! Silly Boy!

Sweet kisses!

Trying to teach Bella fetch!

And taking her potty!

Snake=DEAD

As you can see from this title, I had quite an eventful morning! But let me back up a couple days! I was having our new TV delivered (another long story) and the guy was bringing it through the front door, so I moved my Hibiscus tree out of the way. Underneath was a small snake that slivered into the crab grass. Yuck! But I was hoping that the little snake would find a new home.

Well he did! I was taking the recycling out to the curb and came back to get the trash can and here I find a little snake. It looks like the same snake from before (although my mom said it could be his brother...THANKS A LOT MOM!) I jump in the house not knowing what to do. It is about 7am and David went to a SIM at 4:45.....all the neighbors are gone, but our new neighbor and I didn't want to ring his doorbell so early. So I call my mom- "Send dad 11 hrs to kill this thing!" So she says I should kill it....I don't think I can. Then she suggests me trapping it with something.....I can't get that close. I am sweating bullets! I need a husband....any husband!

After some thought I call maintenance, but they are not there yet. Oh boy what am I going to so. My son plays out there and he would not be afraid to go up to a snake. It has to die, but who is going to kill it.....

So I decide it has to be me and I go into the back yard and get the shovel. I sneak around the yard (he is pointed to the door) and I move the trash can a little bit while hiding behind the brick wall. I am terrified. What if he lunges at me??? So I try to whack him and I miss him- GREAT! He turns toward me. So I start acting like a crazy person and hit him multiple times with the shovel......I did it! He is dead!

Okay - so for all of you people who think I just did a bad thing, please don't comment saying what a horrible person I am b/c frankly you won't change my mind about this. Let me explain snakes. I understand that people say snakes are good....they keep mice away, blah, blah, blah (I think I would rather have mice). But if you think back LONG ago.....Eve was tempted by Satan and he was what....a serpent! AH HA!!!! There is my proof that snakes are bad! If Satan appears as one that is all it takes for me!

So here are my lovely pictures below....as you can see he was little, but he looked like an anaconda to me! If you can identify this snake for me and tell me if it is poisonous or not that would be great! I am not really up for looking at snake pictures right now!

Sweeping Sam

Jackson's Great Grandma Webb periodically sends Jackson a card with some money in it. I know I should just put it in his piggy bank because he has plenty to play with, but she wants me to us it for him....so we went shopping! Our choices are limited here in Columbus....Walmart or Kmart, so we went to Walmart. He has this thing about the broom and likes to carry mine around the house although I am scared he is going to knock something with it. Well Walmart carries Sweeping Sam - a kid size broom that talks and everything. Might I add for all interested parties....this is one of the most annoying voices I have ever heard (but there is an ON/OFF switch). Jackson is in love with Sweeping Sam....sweeping, sweeping....I'm Sweeping Sam!
Here are some pictures of him and his new best bud! If only I could teach him to really use it, open the door, and sweep it out! Thanks Grandma Webb!

I think he is sweeping the dirt under my dryer here....GREAT!!!

Week 1.....13.1 miles to train for

My training schedule started this week for the half marathon. I decided to do a 16 week program to get me prepared. This week wasn't so good.....I unfortunately pulled a hamstring muscle toward the end of the week. I only missed one day of training, but it was a 6 mile run.....I thought it would be better to let it heal than to actually get an injury. And I also couldn't run anyway without looking like a weirdo!

So this week looked like this:
Monday- Cross training
Tuesday - Fun 2 miler
Wednesday- Cross training
Thursday- 5 miler
Friday- Cross training
Saturday- Suppose to run 6 miles, but didn't
Sunday - Rest

I am doing Stroller Strides M, W, and F for my cross training, which is an awesome workout that you can bring your baby along to! I think this is where I might have pulled my hamstring....we did a lot of lunges and squats this week!

My leg is still tight, but I am hoping by Tuesday I can be running again. I think this week is the same as last week, so I am not behind yet!

And here is a picture of Jackson and I at Stroller Strides. He also accompanies me on some of my runs. I think he has the better end of the bargain!

Not so fun ride after all!

It was a very rainy, dreary day here in Columbus as we as getting the effects of Tropical Storm Fay, so we went to town to get out of the house......Walmart, Books a Million, Leigh Mall, and Office Depot. When we were at Leigh Mall we thought Jackson might enjoy riding on his first mechanical ride....we were WRONG! He didn't like it and never smiled. He is a much bigger fan of the ponies we rode a few days ago!
Here he is though......it's kind of blurry since I only had my phone with me, but you will get the picture!

Park Fun

We are starting to be able to spend more time at the park since the weather hasn't been as hot. A lot has changed since we started going to the park in the Spring. Jackson is now NOT a fan of the swing like he use to be. He is now all over the playground equipment....climbing up the stairs, sliding down the slide all by himself, and trying to scare me half to death! What a difference a few months make! Here are some pictures of him playing this week!

Playing the piano.....I think he gets his musical talent or lack there of from myself and his dad!

Gator wrestling.....

Traci helping him get in position (Traci and I have figured out instead of chasing our kids around....one mom on the equipment and one down on the ground. It is so much easier)

WHEEEEEEE....... (sometimes he goes so fast that he goes all the way off the slide onto the ground)

And this is just a picture of Jackson feeding a treat to Joey.....he LOVES to give our dogs a treat and he brought one to Joey this week.

Happy Weekend!

The real John Wayne!!!

The base had a Family Fun Night including food, games, swimming, and pony rides. We didn't really go to anything but the pony rides hoping that Jackson would enjoy them.....and boy did he ever! We got there and he wanted to go right up and pet them. I really wasn't surprised that he wasn't afraid of these large animals, since his dog is not much smaller. I think he thought they were Bailey's long lost sisters!
I was actually able to get on one to and ride with Jackson. (They said these things were ponies - due to their height, but they looked more like horses to me!) It has been since before I was pregnant with Jackson that I last rode my Uncle Clyde's horse and I really do miss riding being out here. I should definitely take advantage of the stables on base sometime. But I do hope to ride again at Christmas....get them saddled up! :) I hope Jackson can ride again then with his Papa! I think my dad would love to do that with him. I thought he would be with his Papa on his first horse ride, but I guess he will be - these were just ponies, right???!!!! :)
Here are some pictures from our little outing!

John Wayne Jr.

I am catching up on my blogging, so this one is actually prefever....

Jackson has this rocking horse that he loves, so I was finally able to catch him being John Wayne.....riding in the Wild Wild West.....catching all the bad guys!

Snaggletooth Yorkie

I was in our room the other day and noticed something on the floor next to Bailey's dog bed. Low and behold it was a dog tooth. Way to small to be Bailey's, so I went straight to Harley. As I pry open his mouth I notice in the front.....a gap! Poor Harley!
I am really disturbed by this. I talked to David about it and he said that -yes as Yorkie's get older they begin to lose their teeth. I don't want to accept the fact the Harley is getting older. He is 8 now and it seems like he should still be about 2. Not to mention he still acts like a puppy.

So I know this is a little weird, but I took a picture of Harley's gap..... look it is right there in the front :(

But he is still a cute little Yorkie.....snaggletooth and all

Poor Jackson

Jackson has been running a fever for the last few days....we are thinking it is just molars coming in. Poor little guy wants to play so bad, but he gets tired so quickly. The only advantage (if there really is one) to your kids not feeling well is that mine LOVES to snuggle up to you all day! I do miss that now that he is a toddler.
But today I was in his room with him as he was trying to feel good enough to play and he ended up crawling to his froggy chair with his lovey....I covered him up and he fell asleep!

Bailey turns 3

Bailey has her 3rd Birthday today! It is hard to believe we have had her almost 3 years. We got her in September and she weighed only 14 pounds (taller and heavier than Harley full grown) and now she is tipping the scale at 125+ pounds and her back comes up above my hips. She was a mess of a puppy....a chewer of furniture, but she has outgrown all of her bad qualities. Oh maybe she has one more - she thinks she is a little dog and wants to sit on your lap. Happy Birthday Bailey!

The day we got Bailey...Harley was NOT impressed!

Bailey spoiled rotten as a little puppy!

She is starting to grow, but was definitely our baby at the time.

Poor Bailey had to grown into her ears and her feet!

Our latest picture of Bailey....as tall as David!

T-1 Track!

As you can see from the title...David got the T-1 out of Track Select. This means he will fly some sort of cargo/tanker plane after graduation. He is very excited about this next phase, as well as, working with a crew! :)
Here is a picture of David in I in front of the T-6 Texan....a plane he will most likely never fly again unless he would become a T-6 Instructor!

August FUN RUN....unaccompanied!

Lindsey and I did the 5K on base this morning.....she did hers with Owen, but I got to run by myself without Jackson. It almost feels like I'm cheating not pushing a jogging stroller! Of course Lindsey did stride ahead of me at the end, but boy did she have her own competition - there was a girl that finished in under 20 minutes! WOW! And her husband (I think) finished in 16 something. Double WOW!

I did better my time finishing in 22 minutes 35 seconds....that was over 2 minutes off of my last 5K. So that puts me at a 7.16 minute/mile! WOW for me! :) This will not be a constant mile pace for the half marathon believe you me.....which we start training for it in a little over a week! Wish us luck! I think I will post my training on here at the end of each week, so that I can see what I have accomplished and you can see my hard work! :)

Have a great weekend! Track Select is Monday.....I am not posting any more AF stuff (pics, ect) on here since it is not a private site, but I will post what we get....short and sweet!

Things NOT to say to a Military Spouse.

So I stole this one from Olivia too....Thanks girlie!(Seen it a ton of times, but I still love it) Even though we haven't gone through a deployment YET, I am sure we will all too soon. But I have definitely done the Single Mom things for several months.

Things NOT to say to a military spouse!!

1. 'Aren't you afraid that he'll be killed?'
(This one ranks in at number one on the 'duh' list. Of course we're afraid. We're terrified. The thought always lingers at the backs of our minds ---but thanks brilliant, you just brought it back to the front. Maybe next you can go ask someone with cancer if they're scared of dying.)

2. 'I don't know how you manage. I don't think I could do it.'
(This is intended to be a compliment. Though, its just a little annoying. Here's why: it's not like all of us military wives have been dreaming since childhood of the day we'd get to be anxious single moms who carry cell phones with us to the bathroom and in the shower. We're not made of some mysterious matter that makes us more capable, we just got asked to take on a challenging job. So we rose to the challenge and found the strength to make sacrifices.)

3. 'At least he's not in Iraq.'
(This is the number one most annoying comment for those whose husbands are in Afghanistan. What do they think is happening in Afghanistan? An international game of golf? Guys are fighting and dying over there.)

4. 'Do you think he'll get to come home for Christmas/anniversary/birthday/birth of a child/wedding/family reunion, etc?'
(Don't you watch the news? No! They don't get to come home for any of these things. Please don't ask again.)

5. 'What are you going to do to keep yourself busy while he's gone?'
(Short answer: Try to keep my sanity. Maybe there's a military wife out there who gets bored when her husband leaves, but I have yet to meet her. For the rest of us, those with and without children, we find ourselves having to be two people. That keeps us plenty busy. We do get lonely, but we don't get bored, and drinking massive amounts of wine always helps keep me busy.)

6. 'How much longer does he have until he can get out?'
(This one is annoying to many of us whether our husbands are deployed or not. Many of our husbands aren't counting down the days until they 'can' get out. Many of them keep signing back up again and again because they actually love what they do or they VOLUNTEER AGAIN and AGAIN to go back to Iraq b/c there is work that needs to be done.)

7. 'This deployment shouldn't be so bad, now that you're used to it.'
(Sure, we do learn coping skills and its true the more deployments you've gone through, the easier dealing with it becomes. And we figure out ways to make life go smoother while the guys are gone. But it never gets 'easy' and the bullets and bombs don't skip over our guys just because they've been there before. The worry never goes away.)

8. 'My husband had to go to Europe for business once for three weeks. I totally know what you're going through.'
(This one is similar to number two. Do not equate your husband's three week trip to London/Omaha/Tokyo/etc. with a 6-15 month or more deployment to a war zone. Aside from the obvious time difference, nobody shot at your husband or tried to blow him up with an I.E.D., your husband could call home pretty much any time he wanted to, he flew comfortably on a commercial plane, slept between crisp white sheets and ate well, paying for everything with an expense account. There is no comparison. We do not feel bonded to you in the slightest because of this comment and, if anything, we probably resent you a bit for it. Comparing a 12 month combat deployment to a few weeks business trip is like comparing a shitty ford taurus with mercedes convertible.)

9. 'Wow you must miss him?'
(This one also gets another big 'duh'. Of course we miss our men. There are some wives who do not and they're now divorced.)

10. 'Where is he exactly? Where is that?'
(I don't expect non-military folks to be able to find Anbar Province on a map, but they should know by now that it's in Iraq. Likewise, know that Kabul and Kandahar are in Afghanistan. Know that Muqtada al Sadr is the insurgent leader of the Mahdi Army in Iraq and that Sadr City is his home area. Know that Iran is a major threat to our country and that it is located between Afghanistan and Iraq. Our country has been at war in Afghanistan for seven years and at war in Iraq for five years. These basic facts are not secrets, they're on the news every night and in the papers every day ---and on maps everywhere.)

11. 'Well, he signed up for it, so it's his own fault whatever happens over there.
(Yes, ignorant, he did sign up. Each and every day he protects your right to make stupid comments like that. He didn't sign up and ask to be hit by anything, he signed up to protect his country. Oh, and by the way, he asked me to tell you that 'You're welcome.' He's still fighting for your freedom.)

12. 'Don't you miss sex! I couldn't do it!'
(hmmm, no i don't miss sex. i'm a robot. seriously...military spouses learn quickly t hat our relationships must be founded on something greater than sex. We learn to appreciate the important things, like simply hearing their voices, seeing their faces, being able to have dinner together every night. And the hard truth is, most relationships probably couldn't withstand 12 months of sex deprivation.)

13. 'Well in my opinion.....'
(Stop right there. Yo, I didn't ask for you your personal political opinions. Hey, I love a heated political debate, but not in the grocery store, not in Jamba Juice, not at Nordstrom, not in a bar when I'm out with my girls trying to forget the war, and CERTAINLY NOT AT WORK. We tell co-workers about deployments so when we have to spend lunch hours running our asses off doing errands and taking care of the house, dog, and kids, they have an understanding. We do not tell co-workers and colleagues because we are giving an invitation to ramble about politics or because we so eagerly want to hear how much they hate the President, esp. while we're trying to heat up our lean cuisines in the crappy office microwaves.)

last but not least....

14. 'OH, that's horrible...I'm so sorry!'
(He's doing his job and he's a badass. Don't be sorry. Be appreciative and please take a moment out of your comfortable American lives to realize that our soldiers/marines/airmen/coasties/sailors fight the wars abroad so those wars stay abroad.)

If you want to say anything, say thank you. After all, we are sexually deprived for your freedom....

It's Alive!

My brother bought me a hibiscus tree for my birthday 4 years ago.....it is absolutely beautiful. But this poor tree has been through it. It has been through 2 moves.....one being 5 states away and 3 winters where it looked like I should have thrown it in the trash.

The first summer it bloomed everyday and was so pretty, second summer it bloomed about half the time, last summer we thought we had killed it (it might have bloomed a few times) and this year I didn't have much hope. Last year I talked to a green thumb on base that has 2 and she suggested replanting it....so we did. Nothing happened. And this winter it looked like a dead tree in my Office, so I cut it back to nothing and hoped for the best. Spring came and I put my pitiful tree back out although it was quite embarrassing! Low and behold it started to grow and become plentiful with bright green leaves - no blooms! I figured it wouldn't bloom, but was going to keep it anyway since it was so pretty and green. Hard work and dedication does pay off! I noticed last week that I had some buds on there and this morning my first bloom appeared! HOORAY!!! I am also proud to say that we have many more buds awaiting their glorious arrival!

If anyone knows anything about how to care for these plants, please enlighten me....I asked at a local nursery and they gave me nothing...should I be surprised???

Here is a picture of my hibiscus!

And here is an up close of the color! PRETTY!

Jackson Squared

This is Jackson's new friend...Jackson! How funny huh? Jackson B is actually only a few days older then my Jackson. But he was over to play today b/c his mom had a spouse thing to go to! He is such a good little boy and the boys played well together. It is funny how when I call one of them- they both look!
So here is a picture of Jackson Squared (Liz came up with that and I think it is cute!)

Jackson loves some Whippets!

We are watching Wallace and Gromit today for the Behm's since their packers are there! Our dogs go for walks almost everyday together and they get along very well! It was nice outside for most of the day- but then it got really hot, so I let them all come in the house and be lazy! I ended up putting Bailey in our bedroom b/c she wants to rule the house (Wallace is also her boyfriend...he is in blue). Wallace and Gromit finally settled down and took a little nap on Bailey's bed!

Jackson is in LOVE with having the Whippets here....no Jackson we are not getting any more puppies, so don't even think about it! He has followed them around all afternoon and they have kept him entertained! Thanks Wallace and Gromit!

David has our camera with him today, but I got a couple pictures of Jackson loving on them with my phone! It was too sweet!

Jackson petting Gromit so nicely!

Jackson giving Wallace a hug!

Come back and play anytime Whippets! We will all miss you when you move to Louisiana! :(

We have contact!

Yes that is right! I should have waited a day to post a Potty Update! Jackson went potty in his potty chair! YEAH! And I didn't even witness it! He did it for Daddy! He has no idea what he did that was so great, but he was all for the Reese's Piece I gave him! :) My little ET!
